The shopping journey is beginning before the traditional search bar. Consumers describe needs to AI assistants and expect answers that understand context, availability and timing. The Agentforce Commerce release aims to connect that conversational discovery to a retailer’s real operations.

The portfolio includes agents for shoppers, B2B buyers and merchants. The difference from a chatbot is the ability to act: check inventory, apply contract pricing, confirm delivery, organize a catalog or adjust merchandising rules. Conversation is grounded in business data and logic.

Intent-driven search also reduces dependence on exact keywords. Instead of naming a specific product, a customer can explain an occasion or constraint. For that experience to work, catalog data, attributes, inventory and policies must be structured and current.

The larger challenge is continuity across external assistants, websites, messaging and stores. A business must recognize the same customer and preserve context without losing control of data, brand or the order. Agentic commerce is an architecture project as much as an experience project.
